Care for Primary Children (Age 2.5 to 6 years)
CFMS offers two classroom options for Primary children designed to meet the needs of families schedules.
The Traditional Primary class is designed for families who can build their schedule around a traditional school day. Children age 2.5 through 4 stay at school until 11:45 a.m. and are then dismissed. Five and six year old children in that same class remain at school until 3:00 pm and are then dismissed.
The All-Day Primary class is designed for families who need regular full-day care for their children. Children may arrive as early as 8:00 a.m. and stay at school as late as 6:00 pm each day.
Before-care is offered for all children enrolled in the Traditional Primary or Elementary classes. It is available beginning at 8:00 am each day that school is open. Parents need to sign their child(ren) up in advance to attend Before-care. Parents can call or e-mail the office to sign up during the year. Children need to be dropped off no later than 8:15 am. If families arrive after 8:15, they will not be able to participate in Before-care for that day and will need to wait to until 8:30 to enter school when the school doors open. Before care will be charged at $3 per child per day.
CFMS offers Extended care for all students in enrolled in the Elementary classes. Children enrolled in Elementary Extended attend this program from 3:00 pm when school ends until as late as 6:00 pm
Elementary Extended is flexible. Families can sign up to have their children attend on a regular fixed schedule ranging from as many as five to as few as one day per week. Families can also use the program on a drop-in or occasional basis. Families register their children for their desired schedule at the beginning of the school year.
A sample daily schedule for Elementary Extended is as follows:
- 3:00-3:45 Outdoor Free Play
- 3:45-4:00 Snack Indoors
- 4:00-5:00 Programmed Activity
- 5:00-6:00 Indoor or Outdoor Free Play
The Elementary Extended program strikes a balance between giving the children plenty of space for unstructured, open-ended activities and offering some structured program with a particular focus. Elementary Extended will also make extensive use of the outdoors, spending as much time outside as weather will allow. The program time from 4:00 to 5:00 will vary, with certain activities always happening on certain days and other activities varying on a given day. These activities may range from choral singing to drumming to arts and crafts, baking, and more.
